I became a caregiver because I had always wanted to be a nurse when I was younger. Also, my best friend/sister-in-law became very ill at an early age and I had wanted to take care of her but never got the chance as she passed away at age 44. My mom also became ill shortly thereafter and I promised that she would never go to a nursing home. My intention was to care for her in my home, but unfortunately she never made it home from the hospital. I vowed that if I could not help my own family then I would help someone else. I love being able to help people stay in their homes as long as possible and having the family reassured that their loved ones are being cared for in their absence. My personal achievements that I am proud of are being with two of my clients until the end of their life and knowing that I made things a bit easier for their families. As for myself, I am the mother of four sons and grew up with five older brothers.

I became a caregiver because it's in our custom as a Filipino to take care of our old folks and I am very happy that I can do the job very well. Being a caregiver is like a calling to me. I never dreamed that I will land in this job, but I felt the need of our old folks to have a safety, happy and comfortable life during their last days on earth that only their families and caregiver can provide. I am very proud of my job as a caregiver because I had proven myself to be reliable, honest and dedicated to my profession. My 14 years of experience had made me one of the best because I have a wide clinical skills that I had applied to broaden my knowledge and give the client the best care which is very important in this job. My responsibilities includes supervising medication, meal preparation, personal grooming, light housekeeping and companionship. It also includes assistance with ambulation, arrange with medical care and to report all changes in medical conditions about the client. I want to tell you something about myself. I am 67 years of age, married and has 5 children...youngest is 30 years old and working. I started in this profession when I migrated from the Philippines in 1998. I have buildup a very good reputation from the family and friends of my client and they are ready to tell more about me if needed.

I am a very patient person and do have high respect to the elders. Being a caregiver for 5 yrs I have learned to loved this craft and has given me self fulfillment. My father was bed ridden form thirteen yearsand I was taking care of him. It kind of prepare me this job. My transition from taking care of my father and working as a caregiver wasn't that difficult for me. I've been working as a caregiver for eight years and have dealt with patients with demetia, alzheimers, and parkinsons. My goal is to provide professional help to patients in their daily activities, make their life comfortable, establish their independence and make them know that someone is always there for them.

Most of them need require a great deal of emotional support, which may include listening, counseling, and companionship. I love being a care giver because you get to help people in their own homes. When you work with people in their own homes you get a much better connection with them. I love helping and taking care of people and seeing them smile. I love being able to improve a person's quality of life.
