I am currently employed at an assisted living that specializes in Alzheimer's and dementia. I have been employed here for the past 3 1/2 years and I love it. I have a passion for providing the best possible care to my ability. I am currently in my junior year at Bowie State University to obtain my RN BSN.

I have worked in customer service as a host and later on as a server for the majority of my adult life. I also have experience in childcare and elderly care. I worked closely with Alzheimer's and dementia residents at Somerford Place, an Alzheimer's and memory care facility. Through all of my experience working with children, restaurant guests and elderly Alzheimer's residents, I have learned to be patient and understanding. From serving, i learned not to rush a guest into completing their order, but instead to guide them towards what will make their stay enjoyable, I took this same patience into my work at Somerford Place. Though I was only there for a short time, due to scheduling issues, I learned how to go at the residents' pace, how to allow them to take their time and to try to complete a task on their own to promote their independence. I am a strongly detail oriented person, and I can manage many tasks at once. I've always had an interest in working in the medical field. Currently I am in school to become an LVN with the possibility of continuing on the be a registered nurse. I feel that being a caregiver is a great way of getting to really know the needs of patients and residents so that I can carry on that knowledge as a nurse. The best thing about being a caregiver is getting to know my residents and learning about their experiences in life, and feeling like I add something positive in their lives is the best feeling.

I became a caregiver in 1999. I wanted to be a caregiver when I lost my mother in 1998. At that time I wanted to make a difference in someone who was either sick, elder or someone whom could not care for themselves life. I get great rewards being a caregiver. Me and my sister care for our dad from 2010 to 2012 in our home. He was diagnose with Alzheimer. It was the hardest thing I ever did as an caregiver. This is why I am and became a caregiver who not only just work but also care.

Why im a grate caregiver well i love to help people,weather it be helping them with basic daily needs or just being there for someone who is lonely.i love people,and i get a lot of satisfaction from being able to put a smile on someones face.being a caregiver is something i was meant to do in my life.

i became a care giver because i love serving people,i like being a care giver because i am making some ones life happier and complete. My achievement that i am proud of is just always giving my job 100%. i am a women that is timely dependable and a very hard worker. i have 3 children that are grown up now and i just want too be there for people to help them thirve and be happy.

When I was 18 years old i worked in ag construction when i met a lady that offered me a job watching her husbands grandmother who suffered from sun downers and i have been a caregiver ever since. Being a caregiver has always come naturally to me. I have worked for private families, facilities, and agencies. Most of my experience has been working with Alzheimer/dementia patients with some experience working along side hospice care. Over the years i have revived promotions and employee of the months, but I'm particularly proud of being the only caregiver out of four to be asked back to work for a family. I am originally from Smartsville, Ca. and recently moved to Irving, TX. to be closer to family. I have AA degree in Healthcare and AS degree in Medical Assisting form Heald College. I graduated with honors and perfect attendance which I'm extremely proud of because i was going to school full time and working two jobs and it took a lot hard work and dedication.
