I'm a caregiver for seniors. My client experience spans from the early onset of dementia to end-of-life hospice patients. My daily task is that of a homemaker, cooking cleaning, running errands, taking my client to appointments, and of course, caregiving. Each client is special, with individual needs. I provide companionship plus assistance with all their needs, dressing, personal care, standby assistance for fall risk clients, nail care, bathing, medication reminders, or whatever the family requires. I've been a caregiver for 11 years and have worked all up and down the West and East coast before moving here. Now that I am in IA, I am looking to establish my new routine and get into a new schedule.

All my life, growing up, my mother was a CNA and brought me along with her to her individual support homes. That initially sparked my interest in helping others. Eventually, I learned that not only did I love helping people, but I loved hearing their life stories and family history. As time went on, I gained experience as a caregiver, CNA, and just graduated college in 2020 as a Medical Assistant. For the last 6 years now, I have dedicated my life and career to serving the people of our community. Aside from healthcare, I served in the Army for a total of 5 years (3 active duty, 2 Reserves). Traveling was fun and exciting, but I missed home. Family is my biggest priority for myself and my clients. Supporting one in a way that promotes their best quality of life is what I strive for and take pride in. In my off time, I like baking, hiking, and enjoying time home doing puzzles or watching movies. One could describe me as outgoing, sarcastic, friendly, caring, empathetic, enthusiastic, compassionate, responsible, disciplined, and loyal. I became a caregiver for my grandma but I was doing it for my love for her. I don't like to see elders struggle and her doctor told me I should get into home care or be a care provider for her. As I proceeded to look into it, I fell in love with caring for others that needed the additional help. I'm proud of being a caregiver and helping others when needed. But as time went on the world of manufacturing went away my job went away. It was a very hard task trying to find work. With only a high school diploma and 39 years of hands on experience. In this day and age is wasn't enough. I needed to find work. Fast it was a very hard task losing everything I had my home ect. Having to be a caregiver for my Mom when she had a massive stroke. My Mom was on hospice. For four months twenty four a day. I knew I took a very special person to do this task. It was even harder because it was my Mom. I have been a part of the health care field for more than 20 years. In 1990,I began as a CNA, working in long-term care facilities, and as a Gaurdian's assistant. In 1994, I moved to Oregon where I continued as a CNA/Restorative aide in long-term facilities, and went on to become a Medications aide. In 2003 I let my CNA, lapse when I became an alcohol and drug counselor. I continued my education and in 2011, I graduated with honors, and was validictorian from my training at Carrington College in the Medical assistance, program. I am not that confident in back office proceedures so I did not continue on with my certificate. I attended AZmti to have my CNA reinstated in 2014. I became a caregiver, CNA because I felt a calling to help others. I feel a sense of honor when I know that at the end of the day I have done something that provides some comfort, no matter how small for someone else. My personal achievement is that I am confident in what I do, and continue to challenge my self to succeed in what ever I do.
