I like to encourage and lift up the spirits of my patients. I took care of my mother who was in a wheelchair and then later became bedridden for over 10 years. We would watch tv together. I would be her legs and get her whatever she needed. Mom and I would also go to her doctor appointments together. I would set up appointments for her also. I assisted her in transferring to her wheelchair on a sliding board and also used a Hoyer lift to sit her in her wheelchair. I would be there during physical therapy and do exercises with her on days there was no physical therapy. I also set up her medication for the week and administered it to her. We would go outside in the backyard on nice days and garden together. I did all this everyday for over 10 years. Towards the end she used a bed pan. I changed her sheets and did her laundry. I enjoyed caring for her. Mom and I had a good time together. She was also a bariatric patient. She weighted over 400 lbs.

I never know how to feel these out, but I'll just speak from the heart. Ever since I was around 6 years old, my grandpa taught me in 1 lesson. Respect your elders. He would tell jokes and I always loved hearing jokes. All through my life I tried different jobs, careers, and so on. I learned while working in sales, I always preferred the older crowd and they always seemed to love me and open up to me. I always hear the, "you remind me of my child/grand child." Even when working in retail I noticed the same. I just enjoy working with and around the older crowd. And even just light care or light house keeping I enjoy doing because I like to feel useful and helpful.
