About Antony

I became a caregiver in high school when my mother's health began to decline. My grandmother had dementia, and my mother had been looking after her, but when my mom started to have trouble walking, I picked up some of the responsibilities. I cooked a lot of Grandma's meals, gave her her medication and helped to bathe her. She would often forget who we were and where she was so I watched her to make sure she didn't leave the house. After my grandmother passed away, my mom became completely bedridden and I took full responsibility of her care until she too passed. Those years were a difficult time for both of us. It was hard to see her suffering, and she was ashamed to have her son help bathe her. Being a social butterfly, she felt lonely despite maintaining a pen pal relationship with some family and friends. We watched television and looked forward to enjoying our favorite shows together. We played card games and listened to music on occasion. The times we had in her room and the smile on her face when I brought her some of her favorite food made things a little bit easier. I felt appreciated. She had such a beautiful, genuine smile. I wish I could see it in person one more time. Right before she died, several of the nurses at the hospital and a social worker commented on how there were no bedsores on her body, and how common they are with people that are in bed for so long. I'd been diligent about changing her sheets, blankets and clothing, and maintaining her hygiene.

Handling medication, checking blood sugar, all of the shopping, cooking and cleaning the house (lots of vacuuming), changing clothes, handling bedpans, changing catheters, operating oxygen machine, operating medical bed, handling her mail, companionship, cutting hair, the occasional foot rub or back scratch. Before she became fully bedridden I would help her in and out of her wheelchair and the vehicle and drive her to and from her doctor appointments or wherever she needed to go. I also talked to her doctors and nurses and they taught me how to use all of her medical equipment. I was able to glean what I didn't know from the manuals.

I began my caregiving career as a skilled CNA in a nursing home at the Care Center in Oakdale. Once I perfected my skills and with the proper work-methods, I resumed my work ethics at Oak Valley Hospital in the Rehabilitation Center; and was promoted by The Director of Nursing to a RNA position ( Restorative Nursing Assistant) working directly with professionals such as PT, PTA, Speech Specialists, RNs and Doctors. It was my absolute pleasure to see my patients regain their health and return home to loved ones. With my acquired experience and knowledge, great compassion and kindness, I became an independent caregiver and have worked as a private caregiver for over 15 yrs. I love what I do. I have met many wonderful clients and family loved ones; and graciously, I have received many letters of recognition. Through my caregiving process, I have worked diligently along side Hospice, applying my nursing skills to bring comfort to dying patients. My goal is to bring a quality of life to my clients with much joy and with a compassion filled with gentle kindness. Please see letters of recommendation and summaries of some of my caregiving positions below.
