About Nicole

Caring for others is a calling and a passion that comes from my heart. I have over 18 years of experience of specialized care for seniors, including varying levels of dementia. I constantly strive to find the fine balance in caregiving between respecting others' personal space (as well as their homes, routines, rhythms, needs, and their independence) while providing them the care they need. Alzheimer's and dementia clients thrive from one-on-one attention and activities catered to them. Their moods may fluctuate from being kind, helpful, and active, to erratic, confused, and mistrustful, to napping or even playing 'possum'. I am very patient, compassionate, empathetic, and have good creative problem-solving skills to help deal with more complicated personalities and situations. I gained a lot of experience with my father who has Alzheimer's for the past 25 years. My last job included transitioning an active but failing client from her home of 45 years to assisted living near her daughter, 200 miles away. For over three years, I cared for a neighbor doing home dialysis. Five years working in nursing homes were eye-opening. I gained valuable experience but never had enough time to give the residents the attention they needed and deserved. Nursing home systems don't have enough time for personal attention - for most of them it's quantity over quality. I have an international up-bringing which helps me fit in almost anywhere. I speak English and picked up some Argentine Spanish along the way. I have wonderful references, a strong work ethic, and am a patient nurturer. I enjoy being organized, am reliable, find things to do to stay busy, and take pride in a job well done. Personal home care is priceless and ensures specialized care for our loved ones, in the manner they deserve. I will work with you with price and situation. I hope you consider me to help you care for your loved one your way.

Became his ally and companion from our first meeting until his last day. As his friend, personal assistant, cook, driver, maid, and helper, we enjoyed keeping his life fun and healthy. He absolutely adored me. We took regular outings and did his favorite things in between the needed doctors appointments and necessities. He spend his last days doing exactly what he wanted to and being happy and loved .

Forged a strong relationship with Mother to help her with her daily needs. We would take regular walks, do yard work, clean her home, I'd make meals when hunger struck, was a constant companion, and a close friendship was built to create a supportive and safe environment. I'd drive her to appointments, friends houses, meals out, parks, shows, movies, shopping, and any other things that came up that she wanted to do. When her family was ready to bring her closer to them, I helped ensure a smooth transition with packing, sorting, and lengthy discussions to comfort her with all the new changes.

Weekly cleaning included changing bed sheets, vacuuming, laundry, kitchen: load/unload dishwasher, clean stove top, sweep and wash floors, and sweep outside areas monthly or as needed. These were the basic perimeters but it was flexible. Home dialysis included prepping the bags (removing from outer bags), restocking supplies, setting bags up for easy usage (up to 4 days), and helping as needed. Organizing projects were planned together and we would work together as much as his energy allowed. Sorting and organizing closets, hobby projects, desks, cabinets, and even rearranging furnisher for easier access and use. Holiday preparations included setting up Christmas tree, ornament hanging, and creating a festive atmosphere. Wrapping gifts, writing cards, and checking the list, twice. Driving to doctors appointments, grocery stores, restaurants, and even to friends homes to visit. Sometimes socializing over dinner and watching movies. All days were a bit different, depending on what needed to be tended to.
