About Margaret

I became a caregiver because I enjoy working with the elderly. I enjoy making them feel special. Making them laugh. Listen to their stories about their youth and family. I started as a live in five days a week for a couple, both in wheelchairs. After that I've taken care of three other people, two of whom passed away. I can give you references from those families. Also I have references from many friends that I've known for over twenty years. I've been a self employed live in for almost three years. After some time you get to feel like family.     Taking care of the elderly. Also did Hospice Care and work for both men and women doing 24 hour live in positions some as long as five days a week. I cook do laundry I'm a companion, give medications, do bathing,help dress, also help feed if needed. Drive to a doctor and hair appointments also do grocery shopping and anything else that is requested. I enjoy it working with the elderly, listening to their stories and I can relate because I am also a bit older.

    I Took care of two people, both in wheelchairs. Ian muscular dystrophy when only use up two fingers for his wheelchair so I would start with checking his blood sugar in the morning getting him dressed shaving him getting him breakfast and feeding him giving him his medication. For her she was able to do most things herself so I would get her breakfast. The rest of the day was doing mainly laundry dishes and then getting lunch ready. She had to be driven twice a week for her chemotherapy in the specially equipped van. Appetite I would help him brush his teeth give him his insulin shot and get him ready for bed I use a Hoyer lift to lift him into the bed. Every night I had to get up with him and turn him because he wasn't able to move by himself. I did get to know this family very well.

    My decision to become a caregiver came from personal experience. A few years ago my mother became very ill suffering from a disease that caused extreme weekness and rapid onset of dementia. It was fortunate that I could be there to help my Dad take care of her many needs.
