What makes me a great caregiver is working with people in a home care setting, it is essential that a caregiver feel the desire to want to help. By showing both empathy and compassion I will let the person that I am caring for I will let the person know that they are care about and what I can do to help them. Why I became a caregiver Growing up in a family of medical professionals I surely thought that one day I would become a nurse. After watching my mom take care and aid the sick in her home, I knew I wanted to become more hands-on with patients. While still in high school, I became a volunteer patient assistance for a local Nurse home, helping out with medical records and little jobs as needed around the Nurse. Being surrounded on a daily basis by this kind of environment is what made me want to become a caregiver. After high school I became a childcare provider in a facility, and I ran my own daycare from my home. Although I loved what I did, it didn't bring me as much joy as caring for the elderly. What do I like about being a caregiver. I enjoy working with people and most enjoy jobs where you have one-on-one interaction with others. I enjoyed taking care of elder family members and would like to help others in this way. I like older adults and feel you can get along well with a variety of elders.I like doing work that has the potential to make a difference in someone's life. I like doing a variety of tasks in a day. I have known since I was young what i wanted to do in life. I wanted to be a Mom, wife and I wanted to care for others. When I got my first job as a caregiver I knew I was right where I belonged. Its physically and mentally challenging on a loved one to always have to do everything and especially if their not trained or knowledgeable about what they need to do. Its honestly a full time job. That's where my help comes in. At the end of The day the stories I get to hear and the knowledge they share with me is priceless. These are people that have lived life and were once probably caring for someone else so now it's my turn to take care of them. I wanna show them they are still important and deserve to be cared for . I take care of each person with the joy and love as I did my very 1st client .. It still brings me so much happiness and just humbles me. I'm patient, I'm compassionate and very understanding. Most importantly I listen and talk with them. If they cant I will play music or read to them. I will bath them and change them if they are incontinent. My time with them Is just that. They have my full attention. It can be challenging and hard to trust someone with your loved ones. I vow to care for them professionally and compassionately.
