About Julie

I have always loved people, but have had a special feeling for those with disabilities. Creating an environment where their lives are made easier and enriched has always appealed to me. As a spouse of a military veteran, there have been ample opportunities for volunteer work. This includes teaching Sunday School, Girl Scouts, Veteran Programs and nursing homes. I have a deep respect for the Elderly and Disabled, having been exposed to these situations frequently. Personal interests include painting, crafts and cooking with flair:) It is truly challenging to create meals for diabetics and special sodium needs, and making them desirable. I find it enriching being around the Elderly with their stories, experiences and challenges. I sincerely believe that each person can live a quality lifestyle, and sometimes it just takes someone willing to go that extra mile to help them when they need it. In the event a client is located close to me, I am willing to negotiate with my fees.

Client has suffered three strokes, is diabetic (insulin), and has high blood pressure/high cholesterol. I have assisted in all aspects of care including daily assistance: bathing, dressing, checking insulin readings & blood pressure, giving insulin & managing medications, schedule & deliver patient to medical appointments, preparation of diabetic type meals and creating a daily physical therapy routine. My spouse has limited use of the right side from the strokes and was formerly using a wheelchair routinely., currently has abandoned the wheelchair and is moving with limited assistance. I have set up the living environment in a manner consistent for handicap which includes the bathroom, clothing (easily accessible), floor plan of furniture, kitchen - all of which keeping safety, cleanliness and user friendly ideas in mind.

Caregiver

Margaret B.
Margaret is my current client and just a delight. Mornings are difficult for her to be alone when she starts her day and that's where I come in to help. She has dementia and needs assistance with meal preparation, med distribution, bathing and everyday needs. We have established a routine for our mornings of breakfast, grooming, bathing, washing clothes, bed linen, etc., and once the basic necessities are accomplished we find plenty of time to chat and find interesting things to talk about or do. We talk about her doll collection, and reminisce about her life experiences, thus enhancing her memory skills. I have found that by doing the things she enjoys and by giving her my undivided attention, she doesn't even take time to watch television while we are together. Her stories about life events are truly enriching, especially when she tells the story!

I was employed at this Drug Manufacturing Company; and worked in the manufacturing department. I worked with all the elements of drug making - understanding the different components, the dissolving of tablets, prescription and non-prescription medications and packaging. It has given me a broader knowledge of drug uses and identification of individual drugs. Four years ago I retired from nursing. Recently, I moved to Phoenix Arizona to be near family. I have one married daughter in Phoenix where I presently reside, and another married daughter in Peoria. My daughter and son-in-law in Peoria have one daughter and are currently expecting their second child. Prior to moving here, my most recent pertinent work experience was as a homecare non-medical provider to an senior woman in her Kansas home. Though hired as "non-medical care provider" much of my assistance with this woman did revolve around her medical needs as she was an end-stage cancer patient, as well as diabetic. I helped manage her medication schedule, transportation and ensuring she went to medical/doctor appointments. I also monitored her daily health needs such as blood pressure, blood sugars, etc. I would like to care for you or a loved one in your home, and assist you with some of your care needs. I am willing to assist with light housekeeping, meal preparations, exercise/physical therapy programs, transportation and occasional errands or grocery shopping. I enjoy reading, baking, music, walking and spending time outdoors, as well as spending time with my family. I would be delighted to come work for you! --Freida McMahon
