Catherine K.

Hello my name is catherine Katulege, I have worked as a caregiver for 5 years. The personality traits that have made me a great caregiver are being honest, respectful , a good lisetner, trustworthy, patient and also being reliable. The most thing that attracted me to being a caregiver was having to take care of my own grandmother. I loved doing it because I knew I was making a difference each day in her life. I enjoy being able to connect with clients on a one on one Level. Just sitting down with them and listening to the stories they have to share and also the knowledge that they have, it just makes my day. My personal achievement that am proud of is getting into the nursing program.

Rockport, MA · 20 years experience

I am an older female who has been caring for the elderly since, 1995, as a Red Cross Certified Home Health Aide.I have a lot of experience helping elderly clients and all their needs. It gives me great joy to help the elderly population to age gracefully. This was a generation of high values, respect, and heart-felt caring of others, that seems to be disappearing in today's society. I love to learn of the old stories, their travels, and their personal history. I decided to become a caregiver, because of the trend of insurance companies to wisk a patient out of the hospital or re-hab all because of financial issues. If the person had no immediate family in the area, or has outlived their friends, who would be there to help them? I feel that I am a very com- passionate person, that loves to offer my energies and love to help that segment of our society, that is all is often over-looked, and stuck or shoved in a nursing home, when they may not be ready to be there. My personal achievement in being a caregiver, is knowing that I really have tried hard to make a difference in an elders life, by helping them with personal care, feeding them, giving them a gift, a hug, sharing a wonderful story , or a hug together. All of these things are what being a truly dedicated caregiver means.

Skills & Certifications: ALS, Alzheimer's Disease, Red Cross Certified Home Health Aide, Blood Disorders, Cancer Recovery, Cardiovascular Disorders, Diabetes, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Hospice Care, Multiple Sclerosis, Neurological Disorders, Orthopedic Care, Parkinson's Disease, Post Surgery Recovery, Renal and Urological Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Skin Disorders, Stroke

I am a very loving and compassionate and patient person who enjoys the simple things in life and gets pleasure out of helping other people with these simple things we all can take for granted at times and this was my reason for getting into the medical field. I grew up with a sibling who was disabled since birth and completely dependent on other people including assistance with feedings, hygiene, and every day functions. Among my disabled sibling, within the past 5 years have also dealt with Alzheimer's as a grandparent of my mine is currently dealing with. I know that there are times not only the patient needs support of a caregiver, but so does their family. I enjoy seeing the satisfaction on people's faces when either the simplest of tasks is assisted with or some complicated tasks. I enjoy all age ranges from infants to the elder's and every age in between. I am a happy person who love's to laugh and love's to make other's laugh and smile and just simply enjoy life. This is a new area for me "professionally", however as stated previously, "personally" it was something I grew up doing and enjoying it very much! I do not believe any education or training can make you a great caregiver, it is something that is not taught but within a person's self. The education is a plus for those who have some medical needs, and I have a total of 5 years experience in an office setting of a family practice. My focus here is helping a family and patient enjoy life and ensuring the family is at ease knowing there loved one is in good hands. I care for my patients as if they were my own family, as that is what we all want for our loved ones.

Skills & Certifications: Dementia, Diabetes, Medical Assistant (MA), Depression, Blood Disorders, Orthopedic Care, Post Surgery Recovery, Alzheimer's Disease
