I'm Summer ONeal, I have 10 years experience as a caregiver (mainly memory care). My very first job was in an assisted living facility. I have done CNA training and Medical Assistant training.

I have been in the nursing field since I was 16 in one form or another. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse because I always enjoyed helping people and I love to talk, I never meet a stranger no matter where I go , I went to RN school in Indiana and worked on the medical surgical floor and worked in surgery for a few years. I was pretty blessed and was able to stay home with my children as they grew up, so I took time off from my career was a stay at home mother but always knew I would get involved in nursing again .As my children grew up I got involved in homecare which I love, I have met such wonderful families and clients along my journey and wouldn't trade my experience for anything.

My current job does not say much about who I am as a person or a caregiver. Before starting in factory work I worked in a nursing home for 4 years. After the nursing home I worked in assisted living for a year. I gave my heart to those jobs. I loved ever minute of being with the elderly. I started by waking them up and taking them to the toilet. Then I would help them get dressed or dress the ones who were unable. I would then assist with normal morning hygiene care. I would take them to dine with others in the dinning hall and then I would feed the ones who could not go. I would do daily excersizes with the residents and give baths when it came time. After breakfast some would take naps, watch tv or do other things. After my rounds of helping to use the bathroom I would visit with some that I didn't get to spend so much time with because of our morning rush to eat. So many of those people whom I took care of couldn't remember some of their own family, but they knew when they seen me coming everyday and they were so happy at times. At the end of the day helping others comes naturally. My gratitude I get from being a caregiver is just making someone smile. If I can make them smile then I must be doing something well.

I take my job as a caregiver very personally. I love what I do and I pride myself in doing everything I can to make my clients as comfortable as possible. I first became interested in being a caregiver when my grandfather fell ill. I watched as caregivers worked tirelessly to help my grandfather in anyway they could and I realized that I wanted to help in that way. My favorite part about being a caregiver is sitting with my clients and talking with them about their lives and their adventures.

I am a harding working college student that loves to help those in need. I have experience in taking care of someone. My grandpa's both were in nursing homes, and I would assist them in anyway. One of my grandpa lived with us for 4 years, I took care of him. I made sure he ate food, went to the bathroom, showered and helped him move around the places we went. I am proud of the way I have been able to accomplish making my family proud. I love taking care of people because I want to help others.

Patient care is my upmost goal. I am friendly, dependable, and thorough to each individuals need. Excellent communication skills. Cleanliness and prompt care for the patients needs. Being a caregiver has always been a passion of mine and I am currently in school for my RN license. I really enjoy interacting with my patients and their families. A support system is critical in sustaining a loved ones quality of life.

I'm very compassionate and understanding of other people and their feelings, I love helping others. Even as a kid I knew I wanted to help elderly or disabled people in any way I could. I enjoy making my clients happy and helping them with tasks they may not be able to do anymore. I am proud of how many skills I have learned over the years and all the certifications I have gotten!

Caregiving is a very fulfilling job for me because I feel good about myself at the end of each day! Being able to help others to achieve a more quality life gives me pleasure. I have been in the medical field since 1977- when I completed two years of RN training. I have worked as a medical biller, medical assistant, and in home private duty health care provider.
