Everyone needs to feel special sometimes and I care about the feelings of others so I have found that certain people respond positively toward me. I love the emotional give and take of helping someone in their daily life. While in college I lived with several elderly women and helped them with tasks that were difficult and watched to make sure they were safe. During that time I also worked in two adult family homes (AFH) in California. In Washington state I took care of my aging mother until she died recently. Concurrently, I got my NAC (nurse's assistant certification) in the state of Washington so that I could help out at the adult family home where she stayed and was able to provide respite care to the owners of the AFH preparing meals, helping with mobility, toileting, providing medications and generally keeping the home. Personally, I feel good that I was able to be with my mother through her last days. My goal is to make life a little better for others.
