I became a caregiver to pay bills, but most of my "caregiving experience" came to me by taking care of my parents towards the end of their lives. I could not bear the idea of placing them in a convalescent center or assisted living situation when they did not need to "be put away". They were not someone's old baggage that no one wanted. So I took care of both of them. I am currently caring for a special needs cousin who lives with me. I like helping people who cannot help themselves. It is most likely is not their idea to lose the ability to care for themselves or maybe somethings that they can no long er do and just need some minor assistance in some area. I understand their frustration in not being able to take care of some of the things they used to be able to do. I am proud of the way I don't give up on people and that my parents raised me to love and honor my elders no matter who they are. I have always had a close connection to my parents and grandparents.
