About Dawn

I became a caregiver when a woman from my church was looking for help doing errands and transporting her to doctors appointments etc. I was in need of work so I took the job. I enjoy planning and preparing tasty and healthy meals. I'm a good and thrifty shopper. I like caring for a persons needs as well as looking after their pets and plants. I like knowing I'm helping the person stay at home rather than go into long term care. I also am blessed to try to help them have as many good days as possible since we never know how many days we have. One of my proudest moments was when the woman I have been caring for insisted to me that she did not like hummus, but when I made some from scratch - she loved it! I have worked at many jobs in an effort to support my "singing" habit. For 15 years, starting in 1995, I worked in the children's book publishing industry. I was laid off (from Scholastic) in 2009 in a company wide down-sizing. Since then I've been unemployed, under-employed and self-employed. Care-giving turned out to be a great fit for my personality and skills.

JoAnne Gunn
After more than a month's notice I left Laura on May 31, 2014 and moved to Banning on June 1st. On June 1st I began working with JoAnne Gunn in Redlands. This is a short-term position. I have been helping her 5 days a week, 2 hours each day. My responsibilities include dispensing her medications, making sure she gets hydration, emptying her "chamber pot", cooking her dinner, washing dishes and other light housekeeping. She has 2 cats and I make sure their boxes are cleaned out and they have fresh food. At this point, this job is slated to end on July 16, 2014 when JoAnne's daughter returns from her trip to Italy.

Laura Ogilvie
I began working for Laura March, 2012. Laura has COPD and later was diagnosed with Colon cancer and had a large tumor surgically removed in August 2013. I did most of her grocery shopping; planned and prepared meals; transported her to doctor's appts (which meant dealing with a wheelchair, O2 tanks, regulators & canulae); accompanied her into her doctors appointments (she is very hard of hearing and is losing her short term memory); took her to nail and hair appts; kept her financial records in order; checked her vitals every morning and recorded them (blood sugar, blood pressure, pulse/ox); made sure she took her meds at the intervals prescribed; encouraged her to do her breathing treatments and got the nebulizer ready for her; communicated her condition to her daughter (in Las Vegas) and often called her doctors on her behalf; dealt with various issues around the house (utility problems or billing problems); light housecleaning (mostly cleaning up after meals and helping keep her table clear of bills, newspapers and coupons) and some laundry; walking, feeding and caring for her dog (a pure pleasure); and watering her yard (front and back) and indoor plants. I have probably forgotten something important, but you get the gist. I did often stay overnight and there were few nights where there wasn't some need for her to call me to help her to the bathroom - or back from the bathroom. She also took a number of falls (no broken bones, thank goodness) and I helped her up

I'm a very passionate, caring and loving person. I've been taking care of elderly people for over fifteen years. I took care of someone with spinal injuries, cancer, alzeimer/dementia and hospice patients and I know the daily challenges and changes they have to go through. I have met wonderful people in this journey they gave me the will and courage to continue in heping making a difference. My rate is negotiable.

I go above and beyond to make him/her happy and feel loved. I became a caregiver, because when I was a little girl, I always helped out my grandparents, until the day they both left this earth. I was under the age of 18 when they passed away. So thats when I decided I wanted to be a caregiver. What do I like about being a caregiver, it gives me joy to make them happy and feel loved. Its vary important that i make them happy an enjoy these last days on this earth. I might not be able to take care of all the elderly, but the one's i do take care of its with love. Thats all that matters... I'm most proud of completing schooling in business management,
