About Gerald

My Caregiving experience began with my father's cancer and he eventually went home to be with the Lord. Next was my mother, who also contacted cancer and lost her battle also. My friend in 2000 contacted me and had me help caring for his mother and later his father till 2005 when he gave up after a long battle with cancer also. I have been working as a Caregiver off and on since 1994 then and in 2013 began working for the family I am working with now where both the husband and wife have cases of severe Dementia/Alzheimer's. I became a Caregiver because I love people and enjoy giving away the love and care that most people need as they are suffering and sometimes don't understand what is happening to them and it's nice to have a caring, loving and cheerful person around who is patient and kind helping them make the adjustments in their life. Having taken care of my parents taught me to be extra caring for my clients and extra careful because I treat every one like my parents and give them the care, respect, kindness and love they deserve and need as they are going through their illness. I think the hardest thing for the patient to understand and accept is their diminished abilities of what they used to be able to do and what they are limited to at this time. I am quick to catch on and have common sense, I take my patients care and safety very seriously and if I feel that something my patient is doing could lead to a fall or injury I will take charge and teach my patient a different way to do something.

Hello, My name is Shalonda. I am and have always been a compassionate person tending to the needs of others. I have been a caregiver since 2009 and I am currently a student attending college for nursing. I am a great caregiver because I actually care for my patients. I provide care to the best of my ability, the most comfortable and professional care that I could give to a person in need of assistance. I really enjoy helping others and that is why my goal is to become a registered nurse in a few short years. I also love to engage with the ones I care for such as telling or listening to stories and involving myself in activities such as crafts, sewing, and knitting. I am always looking for something new to learn so I don't mind learning a few new things here and there.
