My mother had dementia, I provided for all of her care for 7 years. (2006 to 2013) I worked with her doctors, hospital, and skilled nursing. During that time, I came up with different ideas to improve her care. I suggested to the doctor, to use compression stockings to prevent blood clots in her legs. She was unable to walk on her own. As part of her physical therapy, I would pick her up and walk her, from time to time, to prevent clots. I also suggested to her doctor to put her on low levels of oxygen, which helped with her circulation. A few times a month, I would take her out to Starbucks, for coffee and cake. I encouraged family members to talk to her, when they called. Just hearing their voices cheered her up. She passed away on Aug. 1st 2013, at the age of 88.
