I've always had a "soft spot" for older individuals, even as a young girl, and I have a great deal of respect for them. A little over two years ago, I began my life-long dream of attending college and I am currently 50% complete toward my Bachelor's in Human Services. My goal is to become a geriatric counselor, so I'm already looking into Master's programs. Being a caregiver is giving me hands on training in this field. An important part of being a caregiver is not only am I helping the client, but I am also helping their families by providing a respite for them. I know firsthand how stressful caring for a family member is because I was the person in charge of my father prior to his passing 8 years ago.
