I became a caregiver because I saw the real difference it makes in people's lives and I like working independently. I took care of a retired Doctor for almost five years until he passed at the age of 94. I worked 12 hour shifts, four days a week, usually, and kept my client active, well fed, and happy, taking little trips to stores, plays and community dances. l was raising two of my six children then, so with my client's OK, together we would attend school plays and functions. Eventually, Doc, as we called him, joined us for holidays, as well as I cooked Holiday meals at his home also, joined by my fam ily and some of his friends.I helped him send out Christmas cards to keep him in touch. I'm a people person and enjoy keeping as much quality to life as a person's health allows. I've worked with many physical therapists and occupational therapists in my client's rehabilitation. ... more
