About Suelynn

Caregiving was the first thing that I did that felt right and I had no doubts on. You really can't learn to be a caregiver you either have that genuwine want of helping others in their day to make them feel great no matter the challenges you face. I started working at an Assisted Living Residential facility for 6 people from 26-60 yrs of age with mental disabiitites ranging from cerebral palsy to mental retardation to severe mental retardation. I've learned so much in the 4 years that i've been working mainly because no day is the same, it can be the most difficult day on Monday and be very calm and monotnous on Tuesday but that is the beauty of it. Learning to have the highest amount of patience and empathy was the first things I learned and to never let your guard down but at the same time treating them the way we all expect to be treated. These past 2 years I have enjoyed being the manager and actually getting to be in charge of being the voice for them as I spend almost every day with them and quickly get to see their needs, wants and medical problems that arise and that they've been dealing with their whole lives. Even making their appearance better by purchasing clothes that's in style which gives them a certain confidence in themselves that they didnt have before and getting to plan outings to basketball games and museums. I always like going above and beyond what is asked of me because I think we all deserve to live the best quality of life we can.
