About Kathleen

I believe what makes me a great caregiver is that I always go the extra not just one mile but two miles just to make any client happy meaning making sure they're needs are always being met from the smallest task to a task that's challenging for them to do that they used to do. I am a happy person, have a genuine heart, trustworthy, punctual, honest, great listener, responsible, reliable, and I am a maximize. I am a self-starter if I know what's expected. I will always do things that the clients tell me I don't have to. I have the compassion, understanding; having the patience make a difference in your interaction with the client because they can feel a caregivers energy, and I personally always put out positive energy despite what mood the client may be in. You can always turn a negative interaction into a positive one just by being understanding and empathetic towards their situation. I would also make an awesome caregiver because I always put myself in their situation. I became a caregiver because I love helping the elderly and I have a compassionate heart towards them. Giving back to the elderly community due to understanding that as people age things become more challenging when it comes to getting things done, I want to make it easier on the clients that may not always have someone to assist them and make it a little easier for them to accomplish a task. Also, clients have may not someone to talk to and or eat with, etc.. and they just want a companionship, and I can be that companion for them. What I like about being a caregiver is that the clients are sweet, funny, have a sense of humor, the clients families are supportive and helpful, I like building that report with them. A personal achievement I am proud of is when a client request me and misses me when I am not there; this tells me I have built that report and I've made a positive impact on that client.

Experience & Education

Residential Care Worker II

Aug 2007 - Present
County of San Diego
As a residential care worker, I am responsible for monitoring the safety of the children that are under the Polinsky Children Center (County) custody until they placed back with their families or relatives of some sort. These children from the ages from new borns to seventeen years of age have been abused, neglected, and abandoned which means a lot of them do not have the day to day life skills needed to survive in society as well as having mental, emotional, and behavioral problems; which it is my job to teach by re-directing, and help them learn the skills needed in order to be successful in society as interact with other children and adults. I also prepare and do written special incident reports if and when a situation with a child happens (i.e. if a child gets into a fight with another child, or if a child makes a serious allegations on a staff member or another child) and that reports gets sent to the supervising and management team. I also consult and communicate with professional staff members and supervisors concerning behavioral issues and the needs of the children and how we as professionals can meet the children's needs. Also in this field, I also deal with social workers, layers, and the parents of the children giving them the best customer service the County expects of us.

My role as a caregiver to the clients is to make sure they're getting the help they need in all areas that they need help in. To ensure their safety at all times and to make it a little easier for them to get things done that they 're not able to get done like they used to. For example, as a caregiver, I would assist the client with their hygiene, help them get dressed, showering them if needed making sure they don't fall; assist in prepping their meals, transferring them from one place to another, ambulating, going to the store for them and buying what they need and want. I would also take the client out to their doctor and dentist appointments, or just take them out for leisure (out to the park, have lunch at their favorite restaurant). I also do light housekeeping for the clients for I am a firm believer of living in a nice clean environment for it's safer and healthier for them. At the end of my shift with a client if documentation is required, I always document what and how the shift went with the client so that the next caregiver knows how the client was during the time I was working with him/her and also so the family is up to date with the clients mood, activities, etc..

I went into caregiving because I find a great deal of satisfaction taking care of others. I particularly enjoy the elderly. I have worked in private homes and in rehab facilities (alcohol and drug abuse) during the past 6 years. I also attended nursing school, but did not complete my course work. I have a CNA certificate. People say I have a pleasant personality and I am able to communicate well with anyone.
