At the age of 13 years old I was in charge of caring for the children in the nursery of my church. There ages ranged from infant to about 5 years old. At this time there were triplet boys. It was an absolute pleasure working with the children. I knew then that I wanted to provide service to others. My goal as a caregiver is to provide exceptional service to the people who need it. I strive to do so in a manner that the family member would do themselves and in a manner that the client would approve of. I intend to treat my clients with dignity, give love, and comfort in a manner that will cause them to appreciate life and feel no shame in being cared for. My grandaunt was diagnosed with and lived for several years with Alzheimer’s disease. Though I was not primarily in charge of her care, I enjoyed the time I spent with her, while my mother provided care. I would sit with her providing companionship; I would read to her and show her pictures of the photo album. I watched as she deteriorated over the years, so I am very familiar with the progression of the disease and the toll that it can talk on its victims. I am also familiar with the amount of support these individuals need. Being a caregiver gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
