Nursing is an opportunity for intellectual growth, and the route to my true calling. In spite of the challenges involved in nursing, the rewards are even greater in providing help and care to others; this has been my lifelong ambition. I worked as a social rehabilitation planner in Ukraine and within a few years I was promoted to social service program instructor. Working at this center was a great learning experience. I was also sent to a variety of courses that my job required and gained additional knowledge in the health-care field. I supervised social workers, trained them, made plans and schedules of services for every client according their medical and psychological conditions and personal requirements. At that time it became clear to me how important it is not overlook any need and to respond to every client's request in a professional manner, correctly and on time. Ten years ago when I came to the United State, I realized that I had a chance to follow my aspirations in the health-care field. I was motivated to pursue a career where I could use the knowledge that I acquired over time to help people. In my spare time I enjoy hiking and swimming. I also like spending my time reading articles on nutrition and new forms of treatment. My hobbies do not affect my work negatively as I have learned how to balance my activities. Currently I speak three languages (English, Russian, and Ukrainian) and I plan to learn Spanish as well. My languages help me tremendously to communicate with patients from various cultural backgrounds. I love to study and this is another reason why nursing is my career of choice. New researches and advancements in technology are being developed every day, and my career will always require me to challenge and push myself. My long term career goal is to provide comprehensive quality health care and to work with populations that do not receive good medical care.
