About Mary

I began working as a private caregiver a few years ago. At first I was intimidated but soon realized caregiving came fairly naturally for me. My homemaking skills such as cooking, cleaning and organizing as well as my general love and respect for seniors have been great benefits in this field. I'm 26 years old and in good physical shape so that has helped me as well because a lot of my caregiving positions have required quite a bit of heavy lifting. I look forward to new caregiving experiences and furthering my study in the medical field to be able to help people throughout my life.

Elder Options
With Elder Options I had a variety of clients, some of whom needed a lot of physical care while others just needed help around the house and running errands. In addition to senior care I was also able to work with a young girl with cerebral palsy and a young man with developmental disabilities.

Dolly
As a private caregiver for Dolly I helped her with everything physical, getting in and out of her wheelchair to her chair, to bed and to the bathroom. I bathed her and dressed her as well as made her meals. She also has severe dementia so I helped her with her pills and getting to and from the bus stop because she went to the senior center every weekday. I would also stay every other weekend so that the family could leave and get things done around the house.

I am personable and enjoy being a home care provider. I became a caregiver because I wanted to help others by assisting them with their activities of daily living. I enjoyed caring for many seniors over the years and learned quite a lot from them. I believe I'm a great caregiver because I have had extensive training in a skilled nursing facility as well as in many private homes. I also enjoy seeing the difference that I often make in people's lives. I became a nursing assistant back in 1982 and acquired my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license at the convalescent hospital where I worked. I then went on to work for several home care agencies and acquired my Certified Home HeaIth Aide (CHHA) license. I have worked as an independent contractor caregiver for years. I am willing to commute for full-time employment. I have great references and will be happy to submit them upon request.

Nursing is a calling for me. Making sure that people receive the best possible care I am able to provide is my most important goal. Safety first always, compassion, dignity, privacy, respect and hope are all important attribute's that I find essential to good nursing care. It is a meaningful gratifying experience to know that I can add to someone's life and possibility bring goodness when health issues can be a challenge and so often depressing. Good nursing requires being completely present while in someone's home or in a facility. My standards are no cell phones while at work, no clock watching, and I always address people with respect by using MR.or Mrs. (last name) until I am encouraged otherwise. Using Mama or Papa and other terms of endearment are not appropriate for me personally in professional healthcare. I use old fashion "yes Mam, yes Sir, no Mam, no Sir. and in an audible understandable language. CNA #00648980
