About Elizabeth

As a young woman I worked in an orphanage in Honduras. The children had severe disabilities. The pay was low, but I felt so happy. It was the children who gave to me. After coming to the Unites States, I remembered how I felt giving care to others. I worked at manufacturing jobs until I earned my CNA. The proudest personal achievement is my family. But for the rest of my life I will always work for people in need and who need me. Housing question below: Live in no more than 3 days per week, my husband sacrifices much to support me in my quest to help others. I grew up in poverty in Honduras and supported myself from the time I was 14 years old. After Hurricane Mitch destroyed Honduras in 1998 I migrated to the USA on a TPS. I have 4 children born in Honduras, and 6 grandchildren born here. I have my own Christian Life, it is non-denominational. I like to think independently. I know that some clients can be very difficult, but I accept that and take it as a challenge to improve their disposition. I like to be kind but I am firm as well. I have given care to people from 1 year old to 90 years old. I am also very strong. I have also worked often with IHSS.

Michel is just one of many clients over the last 12 years of In home care giving. Michel is quadraplegic man of 50 years. My job involves moving, him, bathing him, washing him, attending to an IV and bed pans, etc. Also, I give him company. I have seen him every morning for 4 hours, every evening for 3 hours. I sleep there at least 3 days per week. His family is now looking for a full time live in and, because I have family, this will not work for me.

I am a mother of 3. Caring for others has ALWAYS been in my soul. I cared for my grandparents as a child just trying to help and be around them. I have been a care giver since I was 15 I love working with the elderly or even the young who just need some help. I am reliable, compassionate and understanding. I enjoy being with someone and knowing I am making it easier for them in what can be the last years of their life. I learn to care for your family members how they want and need and grow to love them like my own! I love to cook and championship is my favorite. My job is done when I know I have made my client feel safe, protected, loved and cared for how they want and deserve to be treated.

Even as a teenager, I had a special affinity for the elderly and still enjoy serving/helping them, talking with them, and learning about their life experiences. I have a B.S. in Nursing and M.A. in Humanistic Psychology. Both of these disciplines require excellent observation skills which I use continuously to assess the mental and physical status of the people I care for. I enjoy working in situations where family is caring and involved and in which communication with family is encouraged. I am an active, healthy 72-year-old widow, mother of an adult son and daughter, and enjoy clogging, crocheting, reading, beading, volunteering and playing classical piano. My experiences as a nurse and mother, and years working with developmentally disabled adults have prepared me for working with those who need care-giving services. But, most importantly, I have a protective heart for the elderly.
