I was a caregiver for a 91 year old Japanese lady with dementia, for 27 months from March 2014 through June 2016. I lived with her in her house (just the two of us). When I became her live in caregiver in July 2014, she was 86 lbs, bedridden and a declared hospice. After just a few months of taking care of her, she gained weight (106 lbs) walked, not bedridden anymore and a "hospice graduate." Her family doctor was so amazed and said that if not for her dementia, she would have been in excellent health condition. She and her four children (they do not live with her) love me like their own family. I love her as my own mother, too. My lady had diabetes, too and I was able to control her sugar by proper diet. My eldest is a nutritionist by profession and I have learned a lot from her. I gave my lady daily a nutritious smoothie drink made of veggies, banana and papaya. She loved it and had developed the habit of drinking the healthy smoothie. I am not a caregiver by profession but my culture as a Filipino is all about respect and care for the elderly, thus, the caring part came out naturally. I was a retired professional who chose to serve and it paid off by the way the family treats me. I went to school to learn and acquire caregiving skills. I also passed the CNA state certification in Hawaii but unfortunately let it expire.

The $14 per/Hr is negotiable. This is my passtion in life, to make people that I assist comfortable and cared for. I am very attentive and I will listen. In a very short time I can see what kind of a person and then gage my approach in a way that is not offending .I want my clients eventually to consider me a trusted and understanding friend, and that I can and will advocate for with passion. You can rest assured I wiil not be on a phone or computer. I love to laugh I love to make people happy and I love what I do, I strive to exceed expectations daily. I am trustworthy and reliable. I do my best at providing care in a way that preserves as much dignity as possible. I treat my clients the way that I would treat my loved ones. I only wish that I would have discovered caregiving earlier in life it truly is the most rewarding job that I have ever done. I have over 5 years of experience that include Dementia, Alzheimer's, Hospice care, rehab after hospital stay, companionship, transportation. Lots of laughing and talking and most of all, the details, the little things in life that really do matter I found my niche in life. I go to work each day with a smile on my face, plain and simple I love taking care of people and treating them with the respect and dignity that everyone deserves. I look at caregiving as not only a job but a privilage and a chance to make a difference.
