I have been caring for seniors for over 18 years. I am patient, mature and caring. I treat my clients like family. I enjoy hearing their stories and keeping them engaged. I also feel that hygiene is a big part of keeping seniors well and happy. Showering, getting hair done and dressing neatly makes a big difference in how a person feels about themselves. Letting them know that they are important and treating them with respect is an important part of my job. I do all the other things as well, such as taking to the Dr., running errands, going out to lunch and keeping their home neat. Once I know my clients ability I chat with them about what they would like to do and we take it from there..

I became a care giver because a close friend of mine passed away and I took care of her during her last days, then decided I wanted to help other people. I love being a care giver because of the rewarding feeling you get when you make someones day just by being there for them and going that extra mile. I am proud to say that me and another aide were quick enough to notice something was not right with one of our patients, shortly to find out she had a stroke. I was proud to know we helped her get the care she needed in the right amount of time. I loved working at a nursing home, and I seem to get along with the elderly very well, I never quite knew why. I just always had the knack for it, even as a child when I would visit my elderly neighbor Dorothy. She didn't have any family, so I liked to keep her company and help her with various things around the house. When I was working as an aide I had that same feeling, like I just wanted to help and be there for someone. Except it was with 14 of my own patients instead of just one person. Still a great experience, I loved working as a nurses aide. We are the back bones for the nurses. I still have a valid license, now I just need a new job!!
