Hi, I'm Renota. I have 30 plus years experience in elderly and senior care. I started out in a nursing facility in 1989. When I trained, we were taught to care for total care (bed patients) as well as independent living, and high risk patients. I am very passionate about the care others because solely, I am responsible for their physical, mental and spiritual care, and I take pride in serving others. I've learned so much from the people I've worked with, and hopefully they've learned from me as well. What keeps me attracted to the care of others is the compassion I feel when I'm caring for the individuals I am with. I have a special spot in my heart for Alzheimer's became I am their eyes, ears, and their voice in this world, and I feel the need to be there for them. I am a very flexible individual as I enjoy working in my yard, therefore it makes it easy for me to assist with individuals that enjoy their yard as well, and also alleviates the fear of leaving your loved ones alone. I enjoy pets, so there's never a problem with my being around them. I work well hand-in-hand with hospice care, and able to maintain records, monitor vitals, medicines and report progress to supervisor, physicians and or medical personnel as needed.
Some years back, my late husband was diagnosed with ALS and I became his primary caregiver. Years later as I decided not to continue working in retail, I became a phlebotomist and realized how much I enjoyed Patient Care, and realized how much compassion I felt for patients and their families and realized how much I enjoyed that kind of work. I transferred to a training program to become a Patient Care Technician. I worked in that capacity for several months. I loved my job but found that I would prefer working in a home setting or somewhere where more individual attention can be paid to patients.Although hospitals provide excellent care, there is usually pressure to spend as little time as possible interacting with patients and their families. Sometimes there is a need for more individual attention and patients may benefit greatly from that attention. I currently work one on one as a caregiver and find greater satisfaction from this than I did when there was so much pressure to spend less time with each patient.

The traits that best fit me to be a great caregiver is that I am patient, a great listener, and I love to make people feel happy, and loved. What attracted me to being a care giver is after doing it for about a year, and completely loving it, I felt really happy with the change I made in other peoples lives. What I enjoy about being a caregiver is that I can see the importance, and the value of my hard work first hand. A personal achievement I'm proud of is being able to complete my pharmacy tech course in order help more in my community.

I have elderly in-laws that I have been taking care of for the last 10 years. Either one of them have diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, (both have had valve replacements, stents, caths, etc. ) shingles, addiction to pain medicine, and so on. My children and I clean their house on a weekly basis. It helps me know that I am giving them care that they are comfortable. They are eating to their dietary needs. When they are in the hospital, I am the one who stays with them and keeps in contact with the family. I enjoy getting to spend time with them. I am proud of the job I do. There are certain things such as giving them showers that they will let me do that they won't let anyone else do. That makes me happy that they trust me to do something that will make them feel better. If I work for your family, I will treat them as my own.
