I have been called a Momma Bear since I was in high school. I was a popular babysitter as a teen and looked after all my friends. I love people. I love helping people. I want my work to improve the lives of those around me and to care for others. I was lucky to earlier in my life to spend 2 years caring for and working with the elderly and I loved it. My greatest hero was my grandmother, she would stay with us over the winter and getting to hear her stories and learning from her was the best part of young life. I am kind, gentle, caring, funny and I love caring for people. I also love knitting, reading, movies and gardening. I am a single mom to two amazing teenagers. They are my joy. I hope to find a way to provide for us while I do something that allows me to feed my spirit. Also to share with them the love and respect o have for all kinds of people in all kinds of situations. Caring, nurturing and looking after those around me is second nature.
Patience to be understanding that there may be changes in plans, things may not go as quickly as planned, and there may be a little hesitation at times on the part of the person receiving care. Compassion in understanding of what the person is going through. Attentiveness it is important to me when providing home care that I am attentive to the needs and changes that are taking place. By being attentive, I will notice when there are emotional or physical changes in the person I am caring for. Dependability is imperative that I be dependable and show up to provide the care that the person needs and is counting on. Trustworthiness in a position that will allow me to have access to the belongings of the person I am caring for. It is crucial that I be someone who is trustworthy and will not breach that trust by taking advantage of the person.
It helps to sometimes put yourself in the otYou feel that when you are older, you'd want someone like yourself there to help you if you need help. Caregiving attracts me because I put myself in the person's shoes and see what it might be like to ask people for help, and make a difference in someone's life. Taking care of sick people that needs my help gives me joy to my heart, and most of The time it makes me feel special knowing I put a smile on there face One achievement that I am proud of is that I've always been so friendly, very positive, very energetic and always in a great mood, and I always put a smile one there face when they feel comfortable around my positive attitude..
My personality traits are that I'm outgoing, an extrovert, talkative, and friendly. I am attracted to caregiving because my sister and father both died from cancer, and I was a part of their caregiving, and when I saw the way they were cared for by professionals it made me want to help someone else. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is being able to listen to and be a companion to someone that is lonely, or has little interaction with others. I love to make people laugh, sing to them, be silly with them, or just brush their hair until the are restful. I personal achievement I am proud of is that I put my personal life on hold to come live with my Mother who has dementia so she would not be alone and would have proper care.

I decided to become a Caregiver when I was searching for assistance with my parents and found that my options were limited by cost and availability. I enjoy being a Caregiver because it swells my heart and puts a smile on my face to make a difference in a family's life. Peace of mind when its your loved one is priceless. I went back to school when I was 42 years old, graduated 2 years later with honors, a 4.0 GPA, Deans List and a Associate of Science Degree in Clinical Administration and Medical Assisting, following that up 2 years later with getting my Registration as a Medical Assistant. So many times I wanted to quit, I was the oldest person on campus, besides the professors, and I was even older than a few of them, but I stuck it out and I am so proud that I did. I became a caregiver because my aunt was suffering with ovarian cancer and she had no one to take care of her. She lived in Kern City by herself. I took care of her for the last three months of her life. It was very emotional but it was also very uplifting. I helped her move on and it was a very wonderful experience. The personal achievements I am proud of has to do with my background. At the age of 42 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy, chemo and radiation. When a person lives through a diagnoses like this their outlook on life changes. I want to help people now. I want to make life easier on others if I can. Life is precious and tomorrow is not a promise. I've been married for almost 15 years to a high school PE teacher and basketball coach. I have 2 daughters and a son. They are all adults now and live on their own. I put down 24 years experience because I believe as a mother, you are always a caregiver from the moment your children are born. You are always on call, there is always a problem, and you never stop caring. My parents live in Kern City and I help them out as often as they need me. My mother just had a hip replaced so I also took care of her.
I became a caregiver because I love the work with the elderly. I am outgoing and friendly, a great companion. I am proud that I take good care of the people I am with. I make sure they get good nutrition, don't fall, don't get bed sores; I always do my best to give the best care possible. I have lots of experience, even with hospice work, hoyer lifts, feeding tubes, etc. I also work well with people with demensia.
