I am a graduate of BSNursing in my country and when I got here being a caregiver is the closest to the career path I want to pursue. I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse here in California. I like being a caregiver because naturally I am a caring person. I do this job because someday when I grow old I would want someone to take care of me too. Helping the elderly is such an achievement because with their limited strength I can be their assistant in order to live a good quality of life and still get to do the activities they normally do. I am 36 yrs old with 2 loving children. I am from the Philippines and I came here in America 4 yrs ago. Caregiving has been my first job and it has brought me to different places and I've met a lot of wonderful people and family through this job. I would like to be able to help the families out there who are in need of help in taking care of their parents. There are so many things that we would like to do for our parents but because of the busy life and other priorities we need someone to be there for them when we cannot. Being a nurse is something I only discovered I wanted in my later years; I am sure that is why I am so dedicated, very caring and attentive to my patients, giving detailed, competent care. I became a nurse because I wanted to give back; my mother had to have a surgery and her nurses were so nice and thorough and gave her great care; at that moment I knew I wanted to become a nurse; I love being able to spend quality time caring for my patients; giving them the attention and treatment they need to help them get better or in some cases complete their journey at the end of their life. I am most proud of the person my daughter has become. It gives me great pleasure when she achieves her goals in life. I feel like I have given her the tools she needs to succeed in life. I graduated as Vocational Nurse from Unitek College and am looking to further expand my experience in my skill set and looking to continue to grow in this field. In my VN program, I developed the skills to deliver impeccable health care and service towards patients. I have been trained in monitoring patients, updating information on vital signs and documents to effectively monitor their health. While working as an in-home health care provider , I was tasked to monitor patients for changes in status, provide a safe environment, assist with daily tasks, provide daily meals ,and give medications as directed.
