My name is Barbara Duus. I am a native of Colorado and have been married 30yrs. I have lived in my current home for 28years. I have over 40 years of caregiver experience. My goal as a caregiver is to keep one thriving in their own home; to spoil them; to provide a safe, nurturing, loving relationship and companionship. The individual I care for will feel special and loved. They will feel happiness, joy, contentment, balanced, engaged, and comforted. I am a caregiver because this is where I find my fulfillment in life. I started caring for my grandma, "Nano," when I was 13 years old. She was confined to a recliner chair.I will never forget those days with her. I knew then, I had found my calling in life. Aside from that, I am especially proud of the hospice care I have provided. I am creative, "old school," compassionate, honest, organized, patient and very empathetic to my clients needs.
I started helping my grandparents at a young age. I could relate to them, and would sit and listen to 78 rpm records, w/ my grandfather, and he would tell me stories about the music we listened to. I traveled around the World, w/ my parents at their families, and would have to help them in their needs. In 2000, I started working at Nursing Homes in Boulder, and have continued to this day. I can relate to the elderly, whether they are male or female. I like seeing them happy and pleased, when I have helped them in any way. The fact that I have been with various clients for over 6 yrs. continuously, before they have passed on. I live in Lafayette, Colo. Am a homeowner, am very religiously minded, and am always putting "other people first", before myself. I always think of the aspect of: "how would I feel, were I in the other individuals' shoes?" and how they would want to be treated?
I have been a caregiver for over 30 years and enjoy working with people and being part of their lives. I ran a retirement home as an assisted-living director and ran the dining room and started the Alzheimer's unit. I have been working with home health agencies and also at facilities and enjoy doing activities with the residence and seeing people smiling and laughing because most of them do not have families that come and visit them so basically we are their family. I enjoy being a caregiver and being in their homes because then you get to be one on one with them which makes caregiving more personable and it's a blessing that most of them can stay in their homes. Being a caregiver is not a talent or something that you can be trained on it's mostly what's in your heart and knowing that the elderly need good people to take care of them and One day we are going to be in the position where we will need someone to take care of us so knowing that there are good caregivers out there it just makes it easier on the family to take care of their loved one.
I am a person centered caregiver which means no matter what, the person I'm caring for needs will always be the center of my attention. My clients will never leave my care without feeling better, the environment cleaner, needs met, and cared for. I will always provide dignity and respect towards my clients. I started my care giving career with the neighbor boy who was my age, and he had multiple sclerosis. His Mom paid me to sit with him, and play video games and make lunch. I remember pushing his wheelchair through my yard, and providing him a childhood friend. I went on to get my CNA license because I loved the thought of caring for the elderly especially doing their hair and getting them dressed. My skills and experience range from light housekeeping duties with companionship to medical experience. I have experience in trach suctioning, tube feedings, medication administration, nail care, many developmental disabilities, mental illness and also dementia and alzheimers that come with age. I have enjoyed my experience in the home health care and group home industry the past 15 years and I have decided to go off on my own and provide in-home care only. I love what I do! Let me help take a load off and provide quality, Christian care for whatever your needs may be! I love to cook so if you just need meals prepped for the week of your choice, I can do that too in your home!
Have always had a respect and admiration for our elderly. Helping, seeing them smile and laugh makes me smile. I have spent 20 years in the health field arena. Seventeen of those in clinical research as a coordinator. For 12 years I have worked part time as a caregiver, evenings and weekends , providing companionship, an awareness of medical needs, spiritual inspiration, planned activities and hospice care. I have certificates and training in CPR, Alzheimer's, Professional Caregiver Education, Advanced CareGiver Training, medical terminology and phlebotomy.
I am a caring and compassionate person. I decided to become a caregiver because I enjoy helping people. I like to make my clients happy. It means a lot to me to be able to help them, to make them laugh every day. I take great pride in helping people with activities that would otherwise be overwhelming. I always give 100% and do the best job I can, with no exceptions or excuses.

I love working with people with special needs because many of them don't have families to care for them. I see it as pity and helping them and showing them love means so much to me. What attracted me was when my grandma was sick and couldn't do anything for herself so I had to help her do everything and the reason is because my father couldn't do it alone. She always needs my attention which shows me that no matter what or how a person is, they need to be loved like everyone else. Doing what I did for my grandma and seeing how happy she was makes me want to continue to do it for others. What I enjoy mostly is spending time the individual do things that makes them happy. Personal achievement I'm proud of is being a caregiver to those indeed.
The main reason I became a caregiver was to help my father while he was sick with cancer. I wanted to be there for him during his last days of life. I like the fact that I am helping someone feel better and get through rough times. My personal achievement in my life was to make my father proud and succeed in my career. I am an honest down to earth person, I take pride in everything that I do and I also stand behind everything that I say. I enjoying helping people it 's a great satisfaction to to know I am helping someone.
