Fast forward to 1990, I knew I wanted to be of help and I made it to CNA school to get Certified! I started w/ Nursing/ Rehab in California and finally moved back to Hawaii to be closer to family. There I started helping out w/ taking care of Family and eventually started working for Agencies. One thing I know w/ having to work both Facilities & Homes, it's both rewarding. Difference is Time & Quality of Care! Facility definitely needing to manage Time/ Quality for each patients. Home Care is best for Patient. I feel that my personality traits that help me be a great caregiver would have to be how understanding I am to my clients, being open, I love helping others out and going above and beyond. What attracted me to be a caregiver was when I was younger my parents were always caregivers, so me being around it so much and seeing how much others (not my parents) would mistreat them .. I know that I could never do that and that I could make a positive change in not only the clients life but in the company. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is getting to know my clients, spending time with them and making sure they have everything they need. A personal achievement I am proud of is that no one can say I have made a negative Influence on them. Everyone will say how positive I am, how i'm quick at problem solving.

I came to caring for the elderly when my father's health began to fail following my retirement. I began working for the adult foster care where he resided when they needed a cook. I took on more responsibility when they expanded their business. I am familiar with different dietary needs and enjoy cooking. I have conducted exercise and craft sessions. I feel the elderly deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. This includes personal hygiene and living in a clean environment.

Hello, my name is Shelby. I have been a caregiver for 12 years both in home and in facility settings. I grew up going to work with my mother on the weekends at the care facility she worked at and fell in love with the work. As soon as I was old enough I started in the same field.
