As my mother developed Dementia I helped her adjust. It took humility and humor and I think it made me into a person I respected. After she passed away I became a professional caregiver because I loved the special bond that grows between the client and the caregiver. I see it as an honor to make the transition less uncomfortable for someone adjusting to losing their independence. I am not perfect but I do attempt, to the best of my ability to do things exactly as my client would want them done. The family is often very shaken up by the prospect of hiring a caregiver and the client finds it difficult to have someone in their home so I really try to fit into their life quietly and efficiently. I am educated, well-spoken and have a good sense of humor. I like to play cards and craft and take long drives and go shopping and I am a good cook. I am happily careful to keep kosher or vegan or diabetic or heart healthy dietary guidelines. I stick to the care plan and I organize one if there isn't one. What I don't know I research.
