I originally became a caregiver (CNA) in my early 20s. Helping people always gave me a great sense of satisfaction. I later went on to become an RN. Although I enjoyed that, I did miss the hands on physical care giving that I experienced as a CNA. The nurse is responsible for medications, orders, conferring with the MD, but little in the way of direct hands-on care. I left hospital nursing in 2004 and spent the next 6 years in a cardio-thoracic surgeon's office. The hours were perfect and I enjoyed the teaching component of office nursing, but it didn't satisfy me the way working as a CNA did. I left nursing altogether 5 years ago to become a stay at home mom for my infant daughter. I feel so blessed to have had these years with her, but now she is off to Kindergarten and I have begun to think about what I would like to do with my time now. My children are, by far, the thing I am most proud of. I think about going back to nursing, but what I would really love to do is to just be a caregiver. Take care of people in their home environment. It's what i started out doing, and it's what has brought me the most satisfaction (professionally).
