I became a caregiver because I love to take care of people. Working with the elderly has given me so many life lessons and appreciation for such small things, clear down to just being able to get myself out of bed in the morning. I have made so many friends in my residents and coworkers doing this job over the last ten years. Through my residents I have learned about history from a first hand point of view. I have learned that love is not what Disney movies teach us, but instead, it is hard work, and to make it last, that hard work never stops. I have learned what hard work is, in my day to day tasks, a nd through the stories of their lives. I started at Sunrise Senior Living last February as a PRN caregiver. After two months, I was offered full time. In June of last year, I was awarded Employee of the Month. In October I was offered a full time manager position. I am proud of myself for moving up as fast as I did and earning the respect of my coworkers and bosses and that they trusted me to move me up to management.
