Hi, my name is Katie and I have been a caregiver for over 20 yrs. There has never been a time in all those yrs that I wished for a different job. I do my very best to accommodate all my clients in my care, especially the ones that still live at home, because seniors tend to do better in their own environment with one on one help. I encourage daily activities, including light exercise if allowed, along with walks and any social activities they want to attend. I am a firm believer in that if we keep our minds and bodies as active as allowed in life we don't have time to think about all the aches and pains. My mother is a good example of just that, staying busy at 87 and she has numerous health issues. I feel what makes me a good caregiver is that, I let my clients know that they can always call me anytime and if I am free and they need something or just need someone to talk to I will be there them. My biggest accomplishment in life was receiving my 4 year Bachelor's degree in Nursing at the age of 50. In all my years of going to school, which I did not do good in, I never thought it would have been possible especially with my grades. I started with courses like medical terminology and recieved all A'S, the feeling inside of me that I could get all A's was so fantastic that I keep going and didn't stop until I received my Nursing degree. But, when all was said and done it turns out that being a caregiver has given me more satisfaction in helping people than being a nurse could ever do for me including making me a better person and caregiver. I will always try to make my clients happy, comfortable and respect their wishes. I treat each and every client the same as I would expect my parents to be treated, with kindness, compassion, understanding, patience and most of all being respectful.
