Im a 48 yr old that has been working at a NYC hospital since 2002. In 2007 the hospital I was working for was offering classes to any employee that was interested in working with patients. At the time I was working as a Secretary in administration, the reason I jump at the opportunity was because my coworkers were always telling me that I would be great for nursing because of the compassion that I demonstrated on a daily basis. I became a PCA (Patient Care Coordinator) I learned to take vital signs, draw blood (phlebotomy), EKG's (electrocardiogram) as well as patient care (help with assisting in bathing, getting dressed and feedings). The unit I worked for was the SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit) It required alot of work and many of my patients were elderly patients with strokes, head trauma, falls and broken hips. I decided to move to Florida just 2 months ago to give a try, I have family that I visit here and always loved it out here. So I took a chance and left my job to try to make it out here, currently im staying with family for now until I get settled.
