I became a caregiver after caring for my father who was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and was expected to have 2 years to live. At the time I was also married and raising my two year old son with a baby on the way. After tons of research on my fathers illness I decided to leave my job and take full responsibility of my father's medical and health needs and still care for my family. After fully understanding my father's illness and the toll it would take hold of his body, nothing can really prepare you for the pain you feel of feeling helpless when you watch a loved one go through their own pain and suffering. All you can do is love them and make them comfortable. After my father passed away I truly realized that caring for others is what I wanted to do from then on. As a person and caregiver I feel that we should treat and care for others the way we would want to be treated and cared for. I have experienced many challenges as a mother and caregiver. I have also been forced to think and act quickly in an emergency situation while keeping calm under pressure. I enjoy the stories and memories that where shared with me while caring for others.
