I am Puerto Rican but have lived in the United States since 2001. I became a CNA because of my dad. He was a double amputee, with 4 strokes and diabetic. I lived in Maryland for 8 years. My mom was in a nursing home for about 10 years and I never knew homecare existed. Or thought it was for people with lots of money. I found out years after she passed away. I have a Masters Degree in Human Resources and a Bachelor's in Office Administration. But I left my 8 to 4:30 job with the State Judiciary to stay at home and instead of having someone come and take care of my father I became a CNA and I took car e of him for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, He passed away on April 7, 2015. I made his last days as comfortable and happiest within his condition. I cherish that on his last days although he didn't recognize most people he was in contact with day to day including my siblings. He always recognized me. Therefore, I had done something right. I miss him but I know he is now in a better place and no longer suffering. I will make sure that I give the treatment that I gave my father. Love, Care and Understanding. ... more
