I helped with care for my grandmother with dementia during her 12 years of living with my parents, including bathing, medications, transporting with a wheelchair, and managing combative behaviors. I also lived with an elderly friend in Togo who had significant diabetes concerns, and helped with palliative home-care for a friend dying of AIDS. I consider myself to be a patient person. I can relate to the struggle it is for families to find a loving and trustworthy caregiver to come alongside them to work in their home. I feel a compassion and empathy for families walking the hard road of a loved one with dementia or other health struggles. I have worked for the past few years as a hospital chaplain in Togo and helped to develop the chaplaincy program, providing needed emotional and spiritual care to patients and their families.
