I have been a caregiver almost going to two years and I have loved being one for the huge reason for the impact that I can make. I enjoy creating relationships and caregiving gives me the opportunity to get to know one person well. I know that I am good at this because it's not merely transactional for me, but I ask myself, how can I truly serve this person well? I try my very best to bring compassion into anyway that I choose to serve and truthfully, I don't always succeed because I am a human being but as an aspiring Healthcare Professional, this has been the heart of why I desire to enter the field; to show love and care to the most vulnerable among us. The satisfaction I receive is knowing that I served people to the best of my abilities and I have done everything that I can do. Once upon a time, I didn't know much about Caregivers, but since becoming one, my heart has deeper fallen in love with the people and knowing how great of an impact my presence has.

I have a numerous amount of responsibilities with the woman that I work with. The lady has a Neuromuscular disease called Freidrich's Ataxia. This disease hinders her mechanical functioning. She is unable to function throughout the day without a caregiver by her side. My job ranges from, helping her with her stretching in the morning and night, strengthening the little movement in muscles she's still able to make use of. I also prepare her meals throughout the day and feed her, administer her medicine that she takes after each meal, I change her clothes, give her showers, transfer her to and from her wheelchair whether it's to and from her bed, the shower or the toilet. I also simply keep her company and spend time with her when there is a lull in the day and there isn't anything planned to do.

I am a natural born care-giver. I grew up emotionally taking care of my mom who had a mental illness. From there I became a stay at home mom nurturing and sacrificing for the welfare of my child. It is a trait that comes natural and automatically. I have cared for many individuals as a care-giver/house keeper over the years. My longest job was caring for a bed ridden elderly farmer in deep depression. He did not talk, wore diapers, did not walk and aspirated when he ate so his food had to be pureed. I stayed with him for 2 years until his death. I am attracted to the home atmosphere where it is more comfortable to care for an individual in their familiar environment. I am a very empathetic, nurturing person who tries to treat others the way I want to be treated. I have proved to be trustworthy and dependable.
