Started volunteering at a nursing home with my grandmother when she adopted me at the age of 9. Didn't know at the time the residents had Alzheimer's and Dementia. I think the residents did more for me than I did for them. They gave me an escape to get out a strict household for a couple of hours a day, and helped a lonely child feel joy. By the residents listening to my stories as well. They had became my friends who I cared deeply for. They helped mold me into the exceptional caregiver that I am today.
