A little over 10 years ago I got a call from my aunt while at work that my mom had almost fallen from a step ladder at my house. She was by herself and we had just lost my dad to his battle with cancer a few months prior so it was on that day that I quit my job as an event planner to stay home and care for my elderly mother. She has forever changed my view on the importance of caring for loved ones in times of need. My family lost a wonderful soul over a year ago and I find myself wanting to share my compassion, love, and assistance to other seniors who are in need because I believe in sharing this blessing with others to live each day to its fullest.

I became a caregiver because of my great grandma .she lived to be 110 years old.i helped take care of her. until she passed away. i truly enjoyed taking of her,it was so rewarding, after she passed away i decided to become Cna so can give same loving care to somebody. i love what i do. i have been care giver since 1997.

I have been working in the caregiver field for 15 years . I like to take care of people. I don't like seeing hurt or with out help. I know I could be me.

Knowing that I have made a difference and assisted in another's life is all the reassurance I need

My inspiration for becoming a caregiver came from my experience raising 2 children with developmental challenges. Both of them are wonderful, successful, independent and completely well balanced adults. When my autistic son was about 8, the doctors told me he would never be able to live independently. He now works with people with autism, has had a paper about autism published, has a computer repair business on the side, is a professional photographer, is a part of the Montavilla Emergency Warning Shelter, in Portland, OR working specifically with severe weather readiness, and is also street medic. My other son is in his senior year of college about to earn dual degrees in Elementary Education and Ministry, and is on the Dean's list. I realized that my passion was seeing the needs of a person and finding the right, personal method to create a healthy, successful and happy life for my clients, and never placing limits on what they can do. I have worked with a variety of children and adults with varied needs. I currently work with a senior who enjoyed scrabble and word searches, in their past they loved to do wood working so we do as much of that as they are physically able. My method is to get to know my client, their past hobbies, interests and then continue doing those activities (yes sometimes I have to get creative due to medical needs, my current client has some vision loss, so I have acquired a large, black and white scrabble set). Talking to seniors about their past is also enjoyable as is listening to their favorite music!

I became a caregiver, to give back. I needed to feel like I made a difference in someone's life. So I always admired senior citizens and they amazed me, so one day I met a senior woman, she was having a yard sale. We met so naturally, we started to talk and then shortly after, I became her live in caregiver. And that is how I started my career as a, Professional Caregiver/ Certified PCA. Threw my eyes I see our seniors as a human guide into all of our futures, they lived a lot of life, survived and endured some of the most troubling times. Most definitely, they are built tough. What makes me a great caregiver is I love people. I take a personal interest in people. I am very caring, hardworking, understanding, patient, and spiritual. I am a humble person who will show your family member the love, respect, and care that they need to help them get better. I will always be there for support, I love making people smile .

My name is Connie, I live in Henderson. I had lived with my mother all my life when so she became sick I became her caretaker and tha was for two years until she passed. I also worked with childern of all age. I come from New York I moved out here 22 years ago.

I became a caregiver doing respite care while attending school. I started getting jobs by word of mouth and decided to do caregiving full-time. I enjoy caregiving, the clients I meet are all wonderful with tons of stories about their youth and their family. I have compassion for the people I work with, I care about their well being and my experience over the years helps me to be a good companion for each person I am with.

I was inspired to become a professional caregiver because of the understanding of the support of families and patients with no real companionship. Going from independent to now dependant on something or someone is not an easy transition.
