I have been in the health field for over 13+ years, I've worked at a nursing home throughout college. Went to LPN school (still have to sit boards) My most recent employer was a 74 year young lady with Parkinson's. I worked with her for 10 years. I was what she called her "Girl Friday" I did everything from medication reminders and dispensing, to hiring aides, payroll, care for her cats, ran errands, shopped for her, brought her to all appointments, Cooked for her, house cleaning, bathing, dressing, toileting and companionship ( we were incredibly close) I am a very dependable and reliable caregiver. I am kind, caring and considerate. I love taking care of the elderly. I can truly say I am good at what I do, and take enormous pride in my care.

I love my job, I love caring for people and I enjoy there stories, and to be there for someone knowing if it's a smile a day or week it's well worth it. To see them enjoy life. The way they should . I like being outside, shopping, cooking, learning the old ways and other peoples ways, gardening, baking, and also doing crafts.

I am a hard working young man, I have a very positive attitude. People who know me beat at I have a great heart and sometimes it can be my down fall always being so nice. So that's why I enjoy this kind of work cause I actually care, I am not just their for a paycheck. Rather I am there to help the individual or individuals progress in their daily life. It is fur filling when you can help some learn something that they wouldn't have normally been able to do as well as learn.

What makes me a great caregiver? Excellent question. I am very very respectful, even if an elderly person is becoming frail and/or senile, it's important to remember that they are a person with a lot of experience, and a person who was once able to stand on their own two feet. I am also very empathetic; Ageing can be a confusing and difficult process for some older people, as tasks they used to find simple become a challenge that needs to be overcome. I am also very very reliable. What attracted me to being a caregiver? I enjoy working with people and most enjoy jobs where you have one-on-one interaction with others. I enjoyed taking care of elder family members and would like to help others in this way. I like older adults and feel you can get along well with a variety of elders. I doing work that has the potential to make a difference in someone's life. I like doing a variety of tasks in a day. I don't ever say, "that's not my job" but instead like pitching in to do whatever is needed. I like making someone smile and doing little things to make a person's day better. I take pride in your attention to detail. I don't want a desk job; you like being physical in your job and using your body as well as your brain. I am seeking a career with growing opportunities. I don't want to invest in many years of formal education but you are willing to learn new skills and take continuing education to do your job well. I feel that when you are older, I'd want someone like myself there to help me if I need help. What do I enjoy most about being a caregiver? I think just meeting peoples' needs. Sometimes it's not a glamorous job but you leave and the people feel like they have been treated with dignity. Their needs are met, they're comfortable or as comfortable as you can help them become. It's a very important thing for me. Not that it has to be glamorous, but just their smiles. It's just a very rewarding thing.

I have been a caregiver for a few years now. In those few years, i have learned valuable lessons that will stay with me forever. Lessons taught by other staff or a patient. They can't teach you everything in a classroom, you have to learn somethings hands on, and those are the lessons I will never forget. Being a caregiver has taught me how to put others needs before my own, it has taught me gratitude and selflessness. Being a caregiver isn't about just doing your job, it's about compassion. I treat all of my clients as if they are family, because in reality they will become a second family.

I fully believe we all have a calling in life. This happens to be mine. I've been a certified nurses aide since I was 18 years old. I've worked with all facets in which the job could entail. Private and in house facilities. Dementia/Alzheimer's - the blanket of it and it's branches, quad and paraplegic inflicted folks. Colostomy care as well as wound care. The list goes on. However, whatever the aliment, or the the age, we are all people, with feelings and tempers and day to day challenges. Sitting down with someone, hearing stories about their loves and accomplishments, simply giving them time and attention is what I see is most important. The smiles, hugs and love make my job worth it each and every day. I would be happy to sit down and meet you, your family and loved one and see if I am the right fit to help them carry on, when sometimes life seems like it's taking simple tasks away from them and comfort and ease them into a new chapter. Since I was a very young girl I have always known that I would be a caregiver. I watched my grandmother take care of the elderly at the Senior Citizens Center in Harlem,NY and I helped her which gave me satisfaction. The fact that I'm able to assist and provide a needed service to those in need is very rewarding. I'm most proud of my daughter who is now attending college for her RN. I am dependable, resourceful and am a good listener.
