Hi I'm Kayla! 19 years old. I am a current student studying for my GED. I currently have my CNA certification, since May, 2019 I have 7 months of Experience in a Nursing Home Facility. I absolutely love taking care of people, it gives me a peace of mind getting to know someone who has been here 3 times as long as me it's amazing. I am used to working night shift (11pm-7am) but anything works right now! I do not have a drivers licenses, I am currently in the process of getting, but, I do have a reliable ride everyday too and from work.

I am at my best when helping other people. I receive a lot of joy out of knowing that my presence and care is needed and helpful. I can be quite bubbly. I love to laugh, and enjoy making other people laugh as well. I enjoy listening and getting to know people. I like to understand people by getting to know them through their personal stories and life experiences. I'm always willing and able to learn. I wanted to be a caregiver after working at Elderwood for a few months. I realized how much I care for the residents and how much their well being means to me. And it was made clear to me that I couldn't spend as much time with them as I wanted to if I was continuing as a dietary aide. I've been told by my other employees that I'm very good with the residents and know how to be patient and kind even when they are lashing out at me. I've never been a caregiver, but I think I would most enjoy their company, even though it is my job to keep the client company. I feel like people these days have forgotten how important it is to sit down and listen. To learn from a past generation who grew up very differently than we did. And I know our generation could benefit greatly from listening to our elders, especially those who feel they don't have a voice or feel forgotten. Helping other people humbles me. It reminds me of how small my problems are and it distracts me from the self-centered attitude that tends to latch on.

I am a mother of many children but only 5 biological children. Two of my children are grown and on their own, two are in college and I have a 13 year old. I have worked in education for 16 years total. I moved to Greenville from Kingstree, Sc. in 2014. In 2018 I was hospitalized for a month due to lung failure and again in August of 2018 for 3 weeks. At that time my dreams were shattered because I became disabled and was no longer able to do what I loved. In 2019 because I was disabled and unable to work I was offered a position to help me make a little income because disability money was hardly enough to support 2 children in college. I started doing private duty for the president of Greenville Tech Charter School. Again I was doing something I loved (helping others). In 2020 my client passed and I am looking now to assist someone else who maybe in need. I do have bad days with my lungs but my good days out weigh the bad. I am loving, honest and dependable. Because of the mark I leave on the people who's lives I enter into references are not a problem to get. I look for private duty only because I am on disability.
