As for what attracted me to be a care giver is I see so many articles and shows on tv showing all of these residents being abused and it broke my heart and I wanted to make a difference so I decided to go to a technical high school were I got my CNA as well as all of my other certifications. What I enjoy most about being a care giver is the smiles I get when I do even the littlest thing s for my residents I am not saying it is always easy or picture perfect but I think of my residents as family members and treat them exactly how I would treat my own family member because you always have to think they did not ask to be in there situation and that is what I always refer back to. I became a caregiver because my Grandmother became very ill, and required care. I started caring for her after school when I was 12 years old. I would go to the store and pick up everything she needs and help her around the house. At 16 I found my first job as a caregiver through my church. One of the women needed help getting ready for church. And, that is how it all began. I love helping someone one on one. I make a difference in my patient's life. I am proud of my ability to keep my job for years until my patient no longer requires my assistance. I am a pre-med student who wants to be a geriatric doctor.

It was 19 yrs ago when my mom dragged me to school w her to learn something new which happen to be Home Health Aide classes. This was back when HHAs needed to be certified w the state of CT. Anyhow make a long story short my 1st day of hands on in clinical I had the hardest resident any newbie would be intimidated by...but not me. The resident actually was wonderful and I handled my very first colostomy bag like I was born to do this kind of work. From there I worked hard and worked my way up to being a CNA and here it is almost 20yrs later and I am still here serving others the sick/disabled...young or elderly no matter what age or how hard the day may be for me I ALWAYS put my head to my pillow with a feeling of satisfaction like I can't explain to anyone. I will continue serving others till the good Lord tells me it's time to stop.
