I love to make people smile. Caregiving became my passion around the age of 12. My mother who is an RN, opened her first home care business. The rest was history as they say! Hearing the stories from the past, life lessons, experiences from people who were light years ahead of me. It's been a joy getting to know different cultures & views. My passion is helping those who can't help themselves. A majority of the people I take care of are veterans. I wouldn't have it any other way! Sacrificing for the people who have done for the same for us is nothing less than an honor. My proudest achievement would be that people remember me & ask for me even when my work with them is done. I have practiced this rule since I have started my home health career 30 years ago. I cared for my grand father Robert Dale Sands at the age of 16 years old he got colon cancer. I cared for him after school up until he passed away 3 months after the doctors said he'd last. I enjoyed the smiles that I brought him when he'd see me after school. That smile changed my life, I was hooked I knew my calling that was to care for the clients as family. I attend to the clients Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Which include but are not limited to Bathing, Medication Assist, Cooking, and driving to shopping as well as assisting within the community. The one thing that makes me a great caregiver is I am a great listener and I am always paying attention. The one thing I mostly enjoy about being a caregiver is knowing I am doing something good for someone else. Even if it's something small like going to the bathroom. The one thing that really attracted me to become a caregiver is knowing I will be able to help someone live as normal life as they can. Lastly the one thing that makes me think that I can be a good caregiver is I took care of my uncle and grandma. Growing up as a teen I had to help with taking care of my grandma that had dementia and my uncle he was on hospic for 5 years.

Yes, Walking, feeding, dressing, grooming, Toileting, bathing, & transferring are pertinent requirements when living independently. To a greater degree, IADL's are key to managing independence. Managing finances, transportation, medications, communications, house cleaning & home maintenance are key. However, When looking at tasks of daily living, one thing that can't be taught is companionship. It only comes with experience. You can live independently, but without a gentle touch, relationships or conversation, emotional well-being & ones sense of self purpose is lost. It also has a profound effect on a patients health, & state of mind. Its impractical to make a positive impact or change without them feeling emotionally and physically safe. Besides providing patient care, my main focus is to make sure your loved ones health, daily tasks and emotional needs are met.
