When I was 15 years old my mom got diagnosed with cancer. Seeing my mom sick and couldn't do for her self helped me to understand that there is people that need help. After four months of seeing my mom in and out of the hospital she passed away yes it was hard but I knew deep down inside I had to help people.

My dad was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer when I was 15, I started online school and had been his only and full-time caregiver since and until he recently passed away. In the duration of those three years being his caregiver I learned a number of different skills. From the start, he had daily med charts, chemo, and radiation. There were multiple surgeries, so I have experience in after surgery care. After not too long he became unable to walk, then I learned how to do wheelchair transfers to and from, how to bathe and dress him, grooming, changing catheter bags, and doing dressing changes. He then was put onto hospice where his RN took her personal time to teach me about end of life care and all that accompanies the end of life. If you want someone who will treat your family member like family, I am the caregiver for you. If you need someone who understands what you're going through, I am there. Nothing attracted me to being a caregiver, I was thrown into the role and realized I am made for it. I have a passion for taking care of others. A personal achievement that I am most proud of is allowing my dad to be taken care of in his home, per his wishes. I am proud of myself for overcoming hard times and making sure that all of my dad's wishes were taken care of even at such a young age.
