I have been a CNA for over a year and have loved giving care that motivates, increases abilities, and gives back the quality of the later years in life. The opportunity to become a CNA presented itself and I couldnt refuse. I have always wanted to be in the health care field. Working with those who cannot help themselves in is very rewarding. Watching the progress of a residents memory and mobility increase due to the activities we do has brought me great joy. The residents face lighting up with excitement that they are not helpless, they can do it.

    I primarily work the day shift, however, would also work evening and night shift when able. Our unit had thirty residents with 5 aids, assigned to six residents each, during the day. on the day shift we got some residents up for breakfast and others were fed in bed. Each resident would get "sponge bathed" twice a day. If it was there bath day they would get bathed in the morning and sponge bathed at night. We fed the residents that needed to be fed and set up breakfast for those who could feed themselves. Those residents became their responsibility after breakfast. We all helped each other as a team. We needed two people to use a hoyer lift. Gait belt transfers and ambulation were for most residents. Daily physical therapy was required for most resident. We performed them as directed by the physical therapist. Any powders, cream, or ointments were applied by the aids. Documentations and acquiring vitals, intake, and output were done by us aids as well.
