About Richard

My working lifetime has been in social service occupations. This reflects my own interest in making a difference in the lives of others. My experience as a teacher, and counselor counselor reflects this interest. I have volunteer counseling experience at the Johnston R. Bowman Center for the Elderly at Rush Presbyterian Hospital and have studied gerontology at IIT and Jane Addams School of Social Work. Currently I assist in the care of my 98 year-old mother who suffers from early dementia, COPD, hearing loss and the loss of most of her eyesight. I feel that my own attributes of empathy, patience and reflective listening have been instrumental to my success in working with the elderly. My greatest satisfaction comes from assisting clients to be more self-sufficient and improve their mood when their having a difficult day. A mile is the best reward.
