Quite often, with a new client I am able to very quickly create an atmosphere of friendship and trust due to the fact that I am always personable and open with them. I like to care for others and do housework. It gives me a lot of satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment when I feel that I am truly needed. My greatest and most proud achievements are when I am able to get a client to joke around with me, smile, laugh, and forget about all of their ailments, doctors, and prescriptions. Smiles and softheartedness are also good medicine.

During this time I worked with many different types of clients ranging from those with Dementia, to some who simply needed help getting around due to a broken bone or surgery. Most often I would assist in daily tasks such as preparing meals, grocery shopping, housekeeping, taking the patient to and from doctors appointments, as well as assisting in more personal tasks such as managing medications, bathing, grooming, dressing, assisting with toileting, assisting with daily exercises, and offering transfer/mobility assistance. Aside from work related directly to the patient, I was also responsible for writing daily reports, communicating with the family, taking phone calls on behalf of the patient (in cases where the patient was hard of hearing), and sometimes even caring for the family pets.

I worked as an aide/caregiver to Lillian and her husband Jack. Lillian was sick with Alzheimer's and under the care of hospice nurses who took care of her most pressing medical needs, however I cared for the home in the areas of housekeeping, cooking, shopping, running errands, and cared for Lilian personally by assisting Jack in the areas of changing, dressing, feeding, rotating and re-positioning to avoid bed sores, and light massages to enhance blood circulation.
